Have you ever been to a exhibition in a museum? walked amongst sculptures and painting? did you know that living people also used to be apart of an exhibition?. In 1810, a KhoiKhoi San, Saartjie Baartman, was taken by an English ship's doctor, William Dunlop, to England. She was a Khoikhoi woman in the beginning of her 20's, who became an anthropological freak in England, and she found herself put on exhibition in a museum, displayed as a sexual curiosity.

Saartjie Baartman was taken to Paris in 1814, the same year that we in Norway was celebrating our freedom, but for Sartjie she continued to be exhibited as a freak. She became the object of scientific and medical research that formed the bedrock of European ideas about what they back then called the Hottentot female sexuality. When she died in 1816, the Musee de l'Homme in Paris took a deathcast of her body, removed her skeleton and pickled her brain and genitals in jars. These were displayed in the museum until as late as 1985.
In Norway it's common to eat marzipan shaped as pigs and pig meat "ribbe" for Christmas. Illegal land grabbing is happening in the San communities land areas, and are threatening the protection of the rights of these vulnerable communities.
The San are arguably the poorest and most marginalized group in Namibia with little access to existing political and economic institutions. Their marginalization has a long and loaded story; recent events are just serving to spotlight this sad situation.
Since after independence, San communities living in the former ‘Bushmanland’, in north-east Namibia, have been enduring a systematic process of land alienation as a result of illegal land settlement by ‘people from the outside’.
Herero cattle herders from the neighboring Gam area began invading the Nyae Nyae Conservancy in May 2009, where the Ju/’hoansi San people live, by cutting through the veterinary fence.
These herders have not only remained here, they also illegally exploit conservancy resources such as plants and grazing, water and firewood, which leaves less and less for the San.
Apart from the fact that these invasions amount to unlawful land grabbing, the San community’s ability to gather food in the bush is severely compromised as a result of the fencing of land. Veld food (food found in the bush) plays a vital part in providing food security to the !Kung San. The land is dry, the rain has not yet arrived and their land areas and resources are going through the Pacman Effect. Please assist us and work together with us to ensure that we don't get a game over. The conferance gathered young leaders in Norway so that we together could discuss how to seize the opportunities the future offers us? How do we make good choices, and exploit the potential of heads, hearts and hands? And how can we use our resources for the good of the community?
It was a conference with a lot of insight and many inspired individuals.
It showed us all the importance of sharing views, so now I'm sharing with you:

How do you view the world?
Do you view the world the same way I do?
How do we view the world?
How do we view our country?
I think the comparison and expectations we have towards people, societies, politics, development and nations is a big key to the source of most problems today.
How can we know that we all view each and every issue equally.
Do we really know what the neighbor next door likes or dislikes? Do we know what inspires him/her? Do we know what they vote or what they believe in? If we cannot answer these questions then how can we assume that we know what is best for our far and near neighboring countries?
How can something or someone be expected to jump development and become something they are not or not ready to be, because other people or systems are either comparing it to an ideal situation or something that is believed to be more right.
I think if there was a greater focus on seeing people, cultures, nations and systems for what they are, instead of focusing on what they are not, it will be easier to create a development with out loosing the original fundament. Nature never jumps (meaning of the word Nanofasa) is exactly how nature has been moving through history, no short cuts, no assumptions, but a sustainable flow where we all play a role, big or small.. Could this example of nature help us in moving forward with everything? If a child is 4 years old, we cannot force it to be 25 years old in two months.
Everything is a process even in a world like ours were everything moves so fast. So let us stop for a second and take deep inhale and be grateful for it. And before we speak, let us listen and look at the view through someone else's window.Aleksandrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02313144742766713499noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1832863693045690403.post-91040595400404917522013-08-19T08:05:00.001+02:002013-08-19T08:05:48.200+02:00When water does not come from a bottle!Namibia is now going through the worst drought in 30 years. But I do not think every one knows how serious a drought can be. When you type in How to survive a drought on google these tips come up, these tips how ever only counts for the people that have access to a store, own a kitchen, a bathroom, a car, a washing machine or a garden with a lawn. Now what happens when you are in the bush and the water is gone and the food i gone? Most tribes in Namibia knows how to find food in the bush, but what happens if you are to malnourished to move? The problem is not their skills for survival, because they could survive us ten times out there, but the problem is that once the hunger manifests as a result of drought, then the body starts shutting down. The immune system weakens, and you become more vulnerable to diseases when there is not any protein to eat, You start not being able to preform simple tasks and and then there is definitely no energy for running down and antelope on bare feet.

Store drinking water in the refrigerator. Don't let the tap run while you are waiting for water to cool.

Do not use running water to thaw meat or other frozen foods. Defrost food overnight in the refrigerator, or use the defrost setting on your microwave.

Do not waste water waiting for it to get hot. Capture it for other uses such as plant watering or heat it on the stove or in a microwave.

Clean vegetables in a pan filled with water rather than running water from the tap.
Wash dishes by hand.
Dishwashers use up to 14 gallons of water per load, but if you must use one, be sure to wash only when your machine is full, not wasting precious water for only a few items.

Never pour water down the drain when there may be another use for it. Use it to water your indoor plants or garden.

Place a bucket in the shower to catch excess water for watering plants. Turn the water on to get wet; turn off to lather up; then turn the water back on to rinse. Repeat when washing your hair.

Don't leave the water running when shaving or brushing your teeth. Fill a cup with water for brushing teeth. Stop up the basin and fill with water for shaving.

Avoid flushing the toilet unnecessarily. Dispose of tissues, insects, and other similar waste in the trash rather than the toilet.

Place a 12 to 20 ounce plastic bottle in a toilet tank to displace water that fills for waster disposal.

When Washing Your Car

Use a car wash. Instead of washing your car yourself, take it to a car wash where recycled water is used. If you're worried about the added expense, cut back on the number of times you wash your car.

If you insist on washing your own car, park on the grass so that you will be watering it at the same time.

Outdoors

Don't over-water your lawn. Lawns only need to be watered every five to seven days in the summer, and every 10 to 14 days in the winter. A heavy rain eliminates the need for watering for up to two weeks.

Position sprinklers so water lands on the lawn and shrubs and not on paved areas.

Do not leave sprinklers or hoses unattended. A garden hose can pour out 600 gallons or more in only a few hours.

Okay. Very informative for learning about how to take more responsibility, although this is actually something people should try and save and work on every day, in a part of the world where we have water on the tap. But as I said what are the options for those who do not have any kitchen, fridge, bathroom or washing machine? How can we together help assist them into getting stronger so that they have enough energy to finding their creative sources for food and water?

There is many ways of making a difference. Some are big and some are small, some of them you might not even notice at all!
One thing can be to support a charity of your choice,
one can be to start a football team for girls and boys.
One can be to give love, ask someone about their day, or just to listen to what someone have say.
The easiest thing you can do is to give a little from what you are saving
on Not buying all the things that you are CRAVING. If you decide to start giving, then that does not mean that you have to stop living. Here are some examples.

If you and some friends are buying pizzas to enjoy whilst watching a movie. Then instead of buying 3 large pizzas that cost 220 NOK per pizza. Then rather make it a fun thing where you buy ingredients and make the pizzas yourself and only pay around 250 NOK total to make three pizzas.

Skip a latte for lions! One cafe latte is about 6 $ and if you drink two a day for a whole year then that is 4380 $ a year. Now if you buy one of those take away cups they cost about 5 dollars and that cup can last you all year. Out of one milk carton that cost 3,5 $ you can at least make four Cafe lattes, and out of one bag of coffee you can probably make at least 50 espresso shots. Imagine how much money you can save, that you can use to help other people, animals, and natural areas by not giving something up, but just making it yourself.

We all scream for ice cream at least 150 days a year. But scream for one ice-cream and save the money for the other two. That will save you about 2000 $ in the summer spring /summer season.

All of the money you save can be enough to not only help save something whether its animals, culture, natural areas or people, but it can also leave you with enough money to travel and visit the places you have helped conserve. We are not talking about the Buffalo today !

Or The crazy 90's trend that was buffalo shoes!

You know what a buffalo is, and your probably do not want to admit it but you know what buffalo shoes are too. But What is more interesting, what is a Buffalo thorn? The Khoi san people are the sustainers of ecosystems. They treat everything so that it can last, they know 400-500 local plants and their usages. They know what to eat to not only provide a balanced nutrition, but also how to find moisture from roots even in time of drought. They have knowledge about a range of plants that can help cure wounds, snake bites, colds, stomach ache, tooth ache or headache, and also more serious infections like malaria.. The buffalo thorn a tree, where the berries and leafs is used to cure phemonia and a hurting stomach. They also believe that it is safe to shelter under a buffalo thorn during a thunderstorm, as protection from lightning.

The leaves are edible, and can be cooked into tasty spinach; the fruit are also very nutritional, though not very tasty. The leaves can be used as an aphrodisiac, either by being chewed or used in dishes. During the Anglo-Boer war the stones in the berries were roasted and ground as a substitute for coffee. A beer can be made from the fruit. A porridge can be made from the roots

The Buffalo Thorn also has other medicinal properties, an extract of the roots is given as a painkiller and a solution of the bark and leaves in water is used for chest complaints. Conclusion: It is so cool how much we can learn from each other across boarders and cultures! We can all see that a tree is a tree, but to discover that they all have usages, purposes & names makes it quite different. A tree is more difficult to walk passed.. when you know its name...!

A tribe is a large number of persons or animals which in previous times either share a common ancestry and culture and among whom leadership is typically neither formalized or permanent. Culture is the colors of our world, colors of diversity that teach us about how much we still have to discover and learn. When we travel to relax and experience we travel like a white t-shirt going through a tie-dye to unravel the potential of something. And then we grow! But sometimes we do not realize the value of cultures and diversity before it is too late. And years and year after a culture has disappeared we collect inspiration from the culture and make art, music or a fashion trend. Why do we always have to see something vanish before we see the value of it? Why do we treat everything like it will stick around forever, and swear at the things about different cultures we do not agree with, instead of thinking about how we can learn from it?

The San tribe that Nanofasa work for is the people who were and are well adapted to their environment and who, in spite of pressure from outsiders over centuries, have managed to keep their culture reasonably intact in many areas. These survivors bear witness to an incredible ability to adapt against the odds. Small-scale societies like that of the Bushmen have social lessons to teach a world that is becoming increasingly homogenized. Their lifestyle needs to be understood and respected and brought in to a stage making it possible to embrace the old and the new for development..

The biggest trend you can follow is to be sustainable, grateful and care to protect the cultures that paint you with knowledge, creativity, and an open mind. DO not wait for it to be presented in art or in a fashion trend in a century from now! Something does not have to be gone, for it to be hot and fresh.

We as humans have always loved to share our living space with a four legged companion. Be it a cat or a dog or a rabbit. But today I want to talk to all the dog lovers out there about a very special dog, The African Wild Dog. There is an estimated 3000 African wild dogs left in Africa, 2500 of these are already mature individuals, they rank as the second of the continent’s most endangered carnivores.

Their numbers dropped from an estimated 300 000 at the turn of the 20th century to a few thousand today.
Why? I thought man loved dogs?

The main threats to African Wild Dogs are conflict with human activities and infectious disease from domesticated dogs.. Both of these are mediated by human expansion and loss of habitat. People have really been after these dogs for years. They get shot, hunted, hit by cars purposefully and poisoned. Their latin name can be translated into Painted dog, and that name fits their character much better.

Wild dogs have altruistic tendencies is their feeding style. Yes, it looks grusome when they bring an animal down. But after a prey animal has been successfully brought down, each pack member is allowed to eat. The feeding scene is a peaceful one, rather than a savage war. Disabled pack members share alongside more able adults, and pups receive regurgitated food from any adult in the pack. This behavior is uncharacteristic of other large carnivores, which often fight over a carcass, hustling with each other for access to food.

We can learn from Wild Dogs in the way they care and share with each other and work together for one fellow goal. And because we still have a lot to learn from them, we should do our very best to protect the areas where they still roam free. Support us in conserving areas for these dogs..

If you are on holiday then you should have time to give this a read through. A holiday is a day set aside by custom or by law in which normal activities, especially business or work, are to be reduced. Generally holidays are intended to allow individuals to celebrate or commemorate something of cultural or religious significance.

But anyways while you are on holiday, then use the time celebrate that you live and be present in the time that is now. Listen when you are having conversations, breathe when you are in nature, sit down somewhere quiet and think about what role you want to play in this theatre of life. Think about those who does not know what a holiday is, think about those that only focus on making it through today, think about how privileged you are who can lay still on a beach, with out a single worry other then licking the sun, Think about the sand underneath your body and what it is made of, think about why thunder sometimes happen after a very hot day, think about why rain is important for your existence (if it rains one day that is). And when you are chatting to your friends about the fact that there is not enough holiday, then think about how you can fill your life with things that are inspiring and not only motivating. There is a difference between saying: If i make it through this fall at work then I can buy a car, and saying I wake up every morning because I know I might be small, but the things I do echoes.

Dance and be amazed of the movement you body can achieve and that people in a different part of the world who lives very different from you can make the same movement.
Laugh, and know that a parrot can also laugh in the same way
Groom your hair with your fingers, and know that a baboon grooms their friends in the same way
Lean your head against someone and know that lions do the same.
Make fire to barbecue hamburgers, and think about the people that make fire only with sticks or flint in 2013.
Think about how lucky you are to be able to share all these similar things with animals and people you do not know, or have seen once on tv or on a postcard. So if you did not go abroad this year, you can also know that you have been traveling in so many of the actions you have done.
Do not close your eyes to find all of this diversity is gone, when you finally get out of the holiday buzz.
Let this summer not only be about receiving food, sun, fun, good weather, but let it also be about giving back.
I live my life in Africa, as one with nature. Africa was not my past, it is my presence and will always be my future. This is where my heart belongs even though I'm at home in myself. Right now however i'm in Norway walking towards the south and I'm out of Africa, just like Karen Blixen had to leave Africa to Scandinavia. Sometimes one must return to see further down the road, or in my case walk the road and i have realized that in order to understand nature, you must unite the natural world and the modernistic world, and you have to learn to communicate the modernistic world through the touch of toes on ground, rays of sunlight, soft winds, beating rain and exploding thunder. I just hope people will join me on that journey! I think we are loosing it! But we do not notice in the same way we notice clearly that our phone is gone.

we think war is bad, but we still return to our dinner table to eat fast and then play violent video games.
we think hunger is horrible, but we still throw away food
we think the fact that the rain forrest is disappearing is awful, but we still print for the hell of it.
we think what happened to the indians was bad, but we still watch the same thing happening in a new form to other cultures.
we feel sad about all the things that happened to people in the past, without realizing that the past is taking a new shape.
SO I wonder when the world became so big that we made our life so small.
If we only live for all the small things that we need to do, then we always live in the future, if we live now it requires that we take more responsibility of how we treat everyone and everything now.
Good morning=) Did not sleep much last night. Too many things on my mind! Yesterday I walked past a place that stuff animals so that people can have them in their house, I walked past a small town where there was only one big house with a pool, whilst the rest of the houses in the area were old and small. I spoke to people that does not care what happens after their death and people that felt helpless because the world is in so much trouble, i also spoke to some girls that wanted to do something, but they were scared that their parents would be disappointed if they did not study business or finance. I spoke to a woman that did not care why I walked, only that a model like me should not be walking this far. I spoke to a man that had dedicated his life to saving people, but that he had realized that we save each other everyday. I spoke to some people that did not want the holiday to be over because then they have to go back to work. I spoke to a child that wanted to know why people do not stop killing animals when they do not eat them, and I could not answer him with a final answer but i gave it a go.. So to sum this up. Yes, we are living very different lives and we have different worries, but all of this exist in the same space, so we live with them. But all things that seem chaotic and apart, is easier to understand and do something about if we all play a role in each others lives. This ecobalance where everyone plays a role is what Nanofasa is all about. So if you do not know what to do, but this makes sense then donate, if you don't know where to start then donate, if you dont have an answer for why you don't care about what happens, then donate and start caring! luckily i have a long walk to think about all of this. Give it some time and think about it
